The Kiwanis Club of Pawleys Island is a volunteer-led service organization focused on literacy, youth development leadership skills and community service. With over 27 years of community service, we are a part of the global Kiwanis International network (www.kiwanis.org), dedicated to improving the lives of children and communities. Our club’s largest focus is on improving the literacy rates in our elementary schools. We believe every child deserves an opportunity to be curious, safe and healthy regardless of the community in which they live. We are generous with our time. We are creative with our ideas. We are passionate about making a difference, and we have fun along the way.
The Literacy Project
The Kiwanis Club of Pawleys Island Literary Project is dedicated to improving the literacy rate of children within the communities in Georgetown County. The literacy project started in 2017 as a much smaller project and has now grown into what it is today. We distribute 3 books each year, to all children pre-k through 3rd grade in the Georgetown county elementary schools. Through this initiative it is our goal to help promote literacy and a love of reading at a young age. By supporting our fundraising efforts, you can help us provide the tools and resources necessary to help children succeed.
Currently, the majority of the schools being addressed have reading levels around 37.5%
