Stables Park Playground & Storybook Walk

Ribbon Cutting Stables Park 2015

The Park playground project began in 2013, with an idea. From there we partnered with the county and through local fundraising efforts and a Kiwanis international grant, we were able to install the first playground in 2015. In 2025 we decided it was time to make some playground upgrades and enhancements, with inclusion in mind.

We want to thank the Bunnelle foundation for choosing us as one of their grant recipients. This enabled us to purchase 3 additional pieces of equipment in winter 2026 which also entailed expanding the footprint of the park. In the late summer, we were fortunate enough to receive a 20K grant from Kiwanis International and are currently reviewing what options we would like to include to expand the playground. As we continue to make improvements, our goal is to keep inclusion in mind, so that the park has something to offer all children.

Storybook Walk

Our next phase, involves installing a Storybook Walk; we received town approval and funding in spring 2026 and are now getting ready to break ground with install planned for October 2026. The Kiwanis StoryWalk® is an interactive, outdoor literacy program where children’s book pages are displayed on signposts along walking paths, encouraging families to read while exercising. Kiwanis volunteers will rotate the book each month, and each book teaches children a myriad of skills to help them navigate life.

We are always looking to add new books to the Storybook Walk; if you are interested in helping fund future playground enhancements or additional books, all donations are appreciated to ensure our children have a safe, inclusive and inviting park to help them thrive, both physically and intellectually.
